Jeux Game Boy Color

Launched in Japan on October 21, 1998, followed by North America and Europe in November, the Game Boy Color modernized Nintendo's famous handheld nearly ten years after the original Game Boy appeared. While Sega and Atari had introduced color-screen handheld consoles in the early 1990s, Nintendo favored a measured evolution: a non-backlit color display, a faster processor, a compact design and consistently good battery life using just two AA batteries. Most importantly, the console remained compatible with original Game Boy cartridges, to which it could apply different color palettes. This continuity reassured players who had already built up substantial game collections while allowing developers to create titles that took advantage of the system's additional capabilities. Transparent cartridges, characteristic of Game Boy Color-exclusive games, also helped distinguish them from older titles.

Its library benefited greatly from Pokémon's popularity, with Pokémon Gold and Silver, followed by Crystal, significantly expanding on the formula established by the original games. The console also welcomed The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX, a colorized version of the Game Boy classic, as well as the remarkable Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons, two complementary adventures that could be linked through a password system. Wario Land 3, Mario Tennis and Shantae also demonstrated the richness of its later years. Some cartridges even offered unusual features, such as the built-in camera in Perfect Dark or the motion sensor in Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble. With the Game Boy Advance, launched in 2001, Nintendo took another technological step forward while retaining compatibility with Game Boy and Game Boy Color games. This gradual transition contributed to the exceptional longevity of a console family that would sell more than 118 million units worldwide.
